Shem HaMephorash
In Hebrew the Shem HaMephorash (or Schemhamphorash) stands for ‘The Explicit Name’. It stands for an originally Tannaitic term in describing the hidden name of God in Kabbalah. Classical Jewish mysticism versions state the name is composed of either four, twelve, twenty-two, forty-two letters or the most common, seventy-two letters.
This seventy-two letter variant is derived from the book of Exodus, verses 14:19 – 21. By reading the Hebrew letters using a boustrophedon (ox-turning) method, in a bi-directional snakelike reading pattern, seventy-two three letter names were distilled from the text. Kabbalistic legends say that this seventy-two-fold name was used by Moses to cross the Red sea and that it would grant later holy men the power to cast out demons, heal the sick prevent natural disasters and even kill enemies.
By adding the suffixes “El” or “Yah” the German kabbalist Johann Reuchlin repurposed the names of God to those of angels. These angels were the product of the will of God and, like the original names, all serve a purpose to illuminate and enhance humanity’s spiritual return to God. The insertion of ‘El’ and ‘Yah’ made the names pronounceable and gave man through angelic individuation gateways to be closer to the nature of God.
The seventy-two angels
Working with angels is not something to be taken lightly. According to esoteric traditions the entities known as ‘Angels‘ are creatures devoted entirely to the will of God. As they are the essence of the one called God. Held within this framework there is the possibility to summon the angels and ask them to do your bidding. If your question resonates with their specific purpose they are willing to help you in any way. If not, they will reframe the question to the answer that serves their purpose.
Without regard for this principle I went in blind. Just started drawing angels, looking at the Hebrew letters and making this my starting point. A fool I was, a fool I am. Although I did draw the essence of the angels, found their inner core I failed to connect. They only gave me the surface of what they are and I felt the urge to stop. To redirect my attention, to do more research into the place of the angels and where they stand. This series will begin again. I will start again.
The five angels I have made still capture the essence of those angels. They can still be used in ritual and meditations, but for me they are the first attempt in finding the angels. Therefore these five angels are for sale in my shop, a gift for me from you. These will be the only angels I will offer for sale in its original form.
